Games and Activities
(for Ages 16-18)
List your date's best qualities in alphabetical order (one quality for each letter of the alphabet).
Play "bigger or better". This is a simple game. Every couple starts out with something small, like a tin can. And then the couples go door to door (random houses) and ask the people if they have anything bigger or better. To make it even more fun, make it a competition: who can get the coolest, or weirdest thing?
Have a snow sculpture contest.
Set up chairs in a circle facing inward (one chair per couple). The girls sit in the chairs and the guys stand behind each girl with his hands at his side. Then ask one girl to leave the circle (leaving one empty chair). The guys must stare at the girls head and not look up. The guy without a partner winks at one of the girls, who then winks back to acknowledge him. She then tries to get to the other guy's chair before her current partner puts his hands on her shoulders to stop her (he cannot move his hands until she tries to move).
Play water balloon volleyball using a sheet to catch and throw. Each team member must hold the sheet. The scoring is the same as in regular volleyball.
One person leaves the room, while the others decide on an adverb (a word describing another, such as "quickly" or "enthusiastically"). The person then comes back in and requests that any number of the people participate in a baseball game, or drive a car, or go to school in this way. The person tries to guess the adverb.
Create your own jug band and perform around a blazing campfire.
Make pictures with dried flowers to give away to special friends.
Form a large circle. Two players are selected to be "Rick" and "Rachel". Blindfold one and give the second person a bell. The blindfolded person calls out for "Rick" or "Rachel", who must make an animal call. The blindfolded player must tag the other player (who cannot leave the circle). Once tagged, he/she becomes the blindfolded player, and the former pursuer selects a new "Rick" or "Rachel".
Each couple works as a team. After picking a subject for the evening, such as movies, songs, etc., the couples space themselves throughout the room. One member of each team goes up and looks at the title or word and returns to his partner and begins drawing pictures as clues. The couple who comes up with a right answer first wins one point. The opposite person in each couple then goes to the front to look at the subject he is to draw, and the game continues.
Have your date come over and each write 10 fun ideas to do in the city where you live (fairly close activities), which you can videotape. An example would be to trip on the library stairs in front of people. Take turns doing the things you have written down. Record the funny scenes, then watch while you have root-beer floats.
Divide a group into teams of 4-7 persons. Ask the teams to invent something that could make life easier, complete with details, diagrams, cost to manufacture, how to market, etc. Start with a 10 minute brainstorming exercise to identify things that are annoying or time consuming.
Each guy is assigned a letter, and each girl a number. They all sit in a circle (or two lines for larger groups). One person is selected to sit in the middle. The moderator calls out a number and letter. The person of the opposite sex who is called must kiss the person in the middle (IT) on the cheek before the person of the same sex as IT kisses the person who is trying to kiss IT. This may be altered to "Hugging Rugby" for small kids.
Each person is given a balloon to tie around his/her ankle. At a signal to start, each player tries to step on the balloon of the remaining participants. If your balloon is popped, you are out of the game. The last one with an unpopped balloon is the winner.
Have a grape catching competition. The first event is timed to see who catch toss and catch the most grapes in their mouths in 15 seconds. Next, similar to a balloon toss, see who can catch a grape in their mouth tossed from the greatest distance. Start near each other, then increase the distance after each successful toss/catch.
