Games and Activities
(for Ages 19-21)
Set up chairs in a circle facing inward (one chair per couple). The girls sit in the chairs and the guys stand behind each girl with his hands at his side. Then ask one girl to leave the circle (leaving one empty chair). The guys must stare at the girls head and not look up. The guy without a partner winks at one of the girls, who then winks back to acknowledge him. She then tries to get to the other guy's chair before her current partner puts his hands on her shoulders to stop her (he cannot move his hands until she tries to move).
Put large paper bags on the heads of four or more guests. Give each person a marker which he/she will use to draw his/her own face as directed by an announcer. "Draw you right eye, then drop your hands to your side. Draw your left ear, then drop your hands to your side" and so forth until everyone is finished.
Divide a deck of cards into 4-of-a-kind piles. Also place spoons in the center (one less spoon than players). Take one set of cards for each player and shuffle the cards. The goal is to get 4-of-a-kind, by taking one card out of your hand, placing it face down in front of the player to your right. Once you get 4-of-a-kind, pick up a spoon. At this point, all of the others must pick up a spoon as fast as they can. The person without a spoon gets a letter from SPOONS, starting with S. The first person with SPOONS loses.
See how small a circle your group can squish into. Keep making the circle smaller and think of ways to get in a smaller area, such as making pyramids, sitting on laps, etc. Or use a small square of plywood and see how many can fit on a one foot square.
Each couple works as a team. After picking a subject for the evening, such as movies, songs, etc., the couples space themselves throughout the room. One member of each team goes up and looks at the title or word and returns to his partner and begins drawing pictures as clues. The couple who comes up with a right answer first wins one point. The opposite person in each couple then goes to the front to look at the subject he is to draw, and the game continues.
Place chairs facing inward in a circle formation. The girls sit in the chairs with the guys sitting at the girls' feet. The girl takes off both her shoes and tosses them into the middle of the circle. Then each guy is blindfolded. On "GO" the guys must retrieve his partner's shoes (with verbal directions from his partner) and put each shoe back correctly on the appropriate foot. When both shoes are put on correctly the girl takes off the guy's blindfold. Continue the game until the last couple does it right!
Play a quiz game like Trivial Pursuit or Who Wants to be a Millionaire.
Each guy is assigned a letter, and each girl a number. They all sit in a circle (or two lines for larger groups). One person is selected to sit in the middle. The moderator calls out a number and letter. The person of the opposite sex who is called must kiss the person in the middle (IT) on the cheek before the person of the same sex as IT kisses the person who is trying to kiss IT. This may be altered to "Hugging Rugby" for small kids.
Start by telling a story similar to this: The earth will blow up in one hour and I own a spaceship that can carry everyone to the moon, but I am very picky. I will only allow certain people to come. I also have all the provisions we need, but to pay for the trip, you must bring two items. The secret to this game is that the two items they bring must have the same initials as their own name. If your name is Brad Jackman, you might say " I am bringing Balloons and Jell-O. Can I join you?" Most people catch on quickly. But you might have to give examples of equipment you would accept from a specific individual.
Have a snow sculpture contest.
Go to a local place where they make trophies and get a plaque that says "World's Best Girlfriend" (or Boyfriend or Friend or Golfer, etc.)
Have someone leave the room. The group selects a verb. Have the person try to guess the verb by asking questions about that verb, replacing the verb in the question with the word "pickle". He might ask "Is it fun to pickle?" "Yes." "Can I pickle right here?" "No." Individuals can only answer "Yes" or "No". Establish a time limit or limit the number of questions.
Have the group form a circle with their hands out showing all their fingers. This is a count down game. The point is to say something that you have done, and if others haven't done it, they have to put down a finger. Someone says something about him/herself that is different from those around him/her and the others who don't have that in common or haven't done what that person has done puts a finger down. Whoever has any fingers left out wins (decide on a prize before playing). This game can last for a long time and is very enjoyable when wanting to know the real side of people.
Organize guests in a circle. Couples share an experience from their life. Each person then creates that story in 15 minutes by cutting out pictures, headlines, and articles. You could then switch partners and repeat the activity. Or simply display the stories for everyone to browse throughout the evening.
