Games and Activities
(for Ages 22-24)
Divide a deck of cards into 4-of-a-kind piles. Also place spoons in the center (one less spoon than players). Take one set of cards for each player and shuffle the cards. The goal is to get 4-of-a-kind, by taking one card out of your hand, placing it face down in front of the player to your right. Once you get 4-of-a-kind, pick up a spoon. At this point, all of the others must pick up a spoon as fast as they can. The person without a spoon gets a letter from SPOONS, starting with S. The first person with SPOONS loses.
Ask each of the guys in the group remove his shoe and sock on one foot, insert a pen between two of his toes and draw a portrait of his date. You might ask the girls to then do the same.
Three people leave the room. The others decide on an action such as washing an elephant, or building a tree house. One person is selected to act out the action (without talking). The first of the three individuals is invited back to observe someone washing an elephant. Then the first person must perform the action to the best of their ability to the second person, and then the second person to the third. The third person must then guess what the action is.
Create your own jug band and perform around a blazing campfire.
Have a grape catching competition. The first event is timed to see who catch toss and catch the most grapes in their mouths in 15 seconds. Next, similar to a balloon toss, see who can catch a grape in their mouth tossed from the greatest distance. Start near each other, then increase the distance after each successful toss/catch.
Organize guests in a circle. Couples share an experience from their life. Each person then creates that story in 15 minutes by cutting out pictures, headlines, and articles. You could then switch partners and repeat the activity. Or simply display the stories for everyone to browse throughout the evening.
Weave baskets.
Divide up into two teams. Give every team player a toothpick to put in his/her mouth. A marshmallow is passed from teammate to teammate using only the toothpicks. Dropped marshmallows can be moved back one person or to the start of the line.
Start by telling a story similar to this: The earth will blow up in one hour and I own a spaceship that can carry everyone to the moon, but I am very picky. I will only allow certain people to come. I also have all the provisions we need, but to pay for the trip, you must bring two items. The secret to this game is that the two items they bring must have the same initials as their own name. If your name is Brad Jackman, you might say " I am bringing Balloons and Jell-O. Can I join you?" Most people catch on quickly. But you might have to give examples of equipment you would accept from a specific individual.
Place chairs facing inward in a circle formation. The girls sit in the chairs with the guys sitting at the girls' feet. The girl takes off both her shoes and tosses them into the middle of the circle. Then each guy is blindfolded. On "GO" the guys must retrieve his partner's shoes (with verbal directions from his partner) and put each shoe back correctly on the appropriate foot. When both shoes are put on correctly the girl takes off the guy's blindfold. Continue the game until the last couple does it right!
Arrange chairs in a circle and have everyone except IT sit on a chair. Blindfold IT. IT then sits on someone's lap and asks, "Are you my Juliet or Romeo?" That person answers in a disguised voice while IT tries to guess that person's name (only one guess). If correct, IT replaces the person in the chair, who becomes IT. If incorrect, IT sits on someone else's lap and tries again. After the new IT is blindfolded, everyone switch chairs and continue.
A good get-acquainted game for a group is to list the name of guest and something you have in common with that guest. And each common trait can only be used once (i.e. same major, same birth month, brother named Dave, etc.). Whoever has the most names/unique traits in common wins a small prize.
Have a snow sculpture contest.
Make pictures with dried flowers to give away to special friends.
Play water balloon volleyball using a sheet to catch and throw. Each team member must hold the sheet. The scoring is the same as in regular volleyball.
