Ideas for Asking
(for Ages Under 16)
Send a bag of popcorn with a note that says "for a popping good time, come with me to __________".
Get a bottle of Skippy peanut butter and then a little sign that says: "Come skip with me to _____ (name of dance).
Is there a special place you'd like to get him/her to secretly? Cut out letters from magazines, paste them together to form a secret message, and arrange for a friend to deliver the message for this anonymous rendezvous.
Send an invitation for a date in pieces over a period of several days. You can write riddles, or send puzzle pieces, or compose a poem or song.
Cut out a whole bunch of different sized circles (small, medium, large) Scatter the circles all over his/her room on the floor, on the bed, and on the walls. THEN, place a poster somewhere they can see it which reads: "I don't mean to put you on the SPOT, but will you go to the dance with me?"
Deliver 20 live goldfish in a fishbowl with a sign that says "will you go to homecoming with me?" and a small poem that says "count the fish, if you can and they will tell you who's your man." Include a list of names, including yours, with numbers next to each name (your name is next to the number 20).
Get some eggs and hard boil them, one for every letter of your name. After they are done, let them cool in the fridge over night. The next day use a white crayon and put one letter of your name on each egg.. Put some candy in the basket, and a note that says something like, "I'm dyeing to go to the dance with you...to find out who this, is dye the eggs and put the name together."
Write your message with each word of the message on a separate piece of paper. Put each piece inside a balloon, and leave the balloons for your potential date with the message "your invited to a popping good time. Pop all the balloons for the details."
If you have a cooperative teacher, ask him/her to do a class activity. Find out about your potential date and make a list of questions. The teacher should have all the students stand up at the beginning of the game The questions should narrow out the askee: i.e. Sit down if you are a guy; remain standing if you were born in the summer; sit down if you have a dog; etc. until the only person still standing would be your potential date. The teacher would then give this person an envelope with your invitation.
Pour some water into a large bowl. Put a capsule (like from a gum ball machine) with a piece of paper asking them to go to the dance. If the capsule doesn't sink, try adding sugar. Freeze it and leave it on their door step. It's also a cute way to answer someone who asked you to the dance.
"Star light, Star bright, will you be my prom date on this April night?" Write that message on cardboard star cut-outs and put them on the bedroom walls of the person you are asking to the dance.
To ask someone out, buy two different colored balloons and write yes on the first, and no on the second (or yes and yes if you must date him/her). Set them by the door with a note telling him/her you want to go on a date, and if he/she would like to go please hang out the yes balloon.
Make a small poster with plans for a date and hang it on the outside of his/her window late at night (or ask a roommate or family member to hang it on the bathroom mirror).
Buy a package of yellow post-it notes. Write on every single one of them "Will you go to homecoming with me?" and put them all over his/her car while he/she is at work, with a poster on the windshield that says: "I had a question so I decided to post-it."
The theme of my girls ask guys dance was "The Punk Rawk Show" and to ask my guy, I made a giant concert ticket that said "The Punk Rawk Show featuring You and Me, etc". I cut it up and hid it in pieces around his room. He had to put it together to see what it said.
