Ideas for Asking
(for Ages 19-21)
"Star light, Star bright, will you be my prom date on this April night?" Write that message on cardboard star cut-outs and put them on the bedroom walls of the person you are asking to the dance.
Talk to one of your local movie theatres and see if they are willing to put some slides in the pre-movie advertising. Give them the message you want it to say (asking or answering). Take the person you are trying to ask to the movie and watch their reaction as they get asked out on the big screen.
Write your message with each word of the message on a separate piece of paper. Put each piece inside a balloon, and leave the balloons for your potential date with the message "your invited to a popping good time. Pop all the balloons for the details."
Cut out dozens of paper hearts and glue a Popsicle to each heart. Stick the hearts all over the lawn. Make one big heart that says "Don't have a heart attack, I'm just asking you for a date"
Get a bunch of balloons and place parts of a message in several of the balloons. Blow up all the balloons and leave a note that says "Pop Us". The recipient can put the words together to find out about the date.
Compose a unique card for a holiday or anniversary activity. As an example, January 8 launches National Goat Week. Or make up your own holiday and plan an event.
If you want to ask someone, just put a baby pool filled with water in their front yard. Then put pennies at the bottom of it and some rubber duckies floating in it. Then have a posterboard saying " I would be a LUCKY DUCK if you went to _________ with me."
Go to the salvage yard and buy an old beat up steering wheel. Then get a Yugo emblem, you come up with the rest. Wheel Yugo...(will you go...)
Go to the market and buy a bunch of different candy bars and then use what they say on them, taping them to a poster to ask someone on a date or to a dance. Here's an example: Hey there [big hunk] [look]'s like your my [lifesaver]. I think you and I should [Mamba] all night at Sader(the dance).
Here's how I asked my boyfriend to Homecoming. The theme was " A night under the stars". While he was out with his friends, I went to his house and decorated his closet doors. I took yellow poster board and wrote: "Star light star bright, first star you'll see tonight; I wish you may I wish you might, be my date Homecoming Night" and hung that up in the middle. I then took a bunch of glow in the dark stars, and star stickers and decorated around the poster on his closet door. It looked really cool and he loved it. Now I have a date for homecoming!
Buy a package of yellow post-it notes. Write on every single one of them "Will you go to homecoming with me?" and put them all over his/her car while he/she is at work, with a poster on the windshield that says: "I had a question so I decided to post-it."
Go out to his/her car while he/she is in class or at work and fill the car with balloons. Include a note or a posterboard, asking him/her out.
Send your date clues during the day (your last clue sends him/her to collect a piņata, which goes with the theme of your dance). Inside is a sign that says: "Hey, I would go hog wild if you were my date for Pigskin Ball", or "Dancing for joy if you could be my date for the Junior Prom". Or just make up your own message depending on what the design of the piņata is. Don't forget to fill it with candy. Remember to remind him/her to break it open.
Take a pile of plastic plates and write upon them separately letter by letter spelling: "Will you go to the Prom with me." Add frosting to outside of plates so it looks like a cake and give it to your prospective date.
Send a lift pass and a coupon for a cup of steamy hot chocolate. Then head for the ski slopes.
Buy some tickets for a concert or ball game. Simply mail your date a ticket explaining that someone (the holder of the accompanying ticket) will pick him/her up the night of the event at a certain time. For confirmation, ask for a sign ("Tie a yellow ribbon around your mailbox, if yes. Otherwise, leave the ticket in an envelope if you can't go and I'll pick it up tomorrow").
